This is what happened to the cake.

It was beautiful at first: moist and dark and just oozing with rich, creamy icing. I walked away for about three minutes and came back to find the San Andreas fault had cracked my cake wide open. I tried to fill the fault with icing, but alas, it only grew bigger as a result of my efforts.

But all was not lost! Those at the gathering quickly reassured me that looks don't matter when it comes to chocolate cake. To prove their words true, they promptly lined up after dinner and made history of the earthquake cake, kindly complimenting me all the while. Soon all that was left of this natural disaster was a few crumbs on a brightly colored plate.
Wasn't that nice of them to do that just to make me feel better?

19 tossed two cents in the coffee can:
Works for me. Looks DOES NOT matter when it comes to chocolate cake. I didn't get any though... Drat!
The other day one of the students brought a chocolate cake that he had made. He took one devil's food cake and added one can of cherry pie filling. It was so rich and delicious that it was a treat to see and an even bigger treat to eat. He added a milk chocolate icing and oh, it was so good. MUD
Looks mouth-watering. Did you save a piece for me?
I doubt it was soley to make you feel better but more to do with the taste! Are they postable cakes????
Mud, you have made me totally hungry now!
Comedy, Mimi and Shaz: I tried to save y'all a piece, but they ate it too fast! Of course, I helped them out a little on that...
Makes me want to go off my diet!
Just stopped by to visit after I saw you'd been by my place and it was an enjoyable time well spent. Come back and read my ramblings from time to time too.
BTW - I've baked many a cake that split like yours but never had anything like an earthquake fault available to blame it on. LOL Looked darned good to me cause I'm of the belief anything chocolate is good regardless of how it looks!
Yeah chocolate cake is good no matter the shape or appearance!
The way my husband would see it, one piece for him now and one for a little later before he goes to bed for a little snack... heh.
I would certainly have helped to eat that cake, just to make you feel better! I would have had the biggest piece and proclaimed the loudest that it was the best cake I had ever eaten. 'Cause it sure looks like it would have been! :)
I came across your blog at Michele's The Rocky Mountain Retreat and just thought I'd stop by to say "hi." And, of course, I pick the day your post includes a photo of an absolutely scrumptous looking chocolate cake (crack and all) and now all I want to do is find myself a slice of cake and dig right in. Oh well...there goes the diet!
I don't get it? whats wrong with it?
Feel free to post any future cake tragedies over the pond to me :D
I see my desire to sabotage everyone's diet has been successful, bwhahahaha! Cyber chocolate cake to everyone...
Oh my goodness! That cake looks SOOOO tastey! I am in agreement with the party goers, it isn't the look of the cake, it is all about the taste.
Sign me up for a piece of cyber chocolate cake! =0p
Bollocks to Cyber stuff! give me some real stuff :D
