I saw a tornado today! It was right at the front of an incoming storm system. I was driving through one of those prairie areas where you can see for miles and miles. The sky was blue above me, but about eight miles to the northeast was this storm system on the horizon. Out of the clouds had dropped this long fingerlike tornado, small really. Lasted about 20-30 seconds and then went back into the cloud. What's scary is that there were no warnings out. Yikes. But sometimes those little ones don't show up on radar.
I wish I'd had my camera! It was about the size of this one below, only not quite so bent. It was more straight up and down, but the circumference was about the same. It looked like it just hit prairie area so hopefully no homes were hit. I think we would have heard if any were.

Nature sure is powerful and unpredictable isn't she? Glad you are safe and weren't hurt. I've never seen a tornado here in Alabama although we've had plenty.

Wow .. too bad you didn't have your cam! It would have been awesome to capture such a shot.
wow! Amazing! What a day not to have your camera! I hope you and everyone in the area are safe :o)
I wish I had my camera, too! I almost drove off the road staring at it. It was so brief, I'm surprised I got to see it at all.
I'd have wet myself with shock. Pleased you're ok too x x
Glad to hear that you're okay. I lived in Wichita for most of the 1980s and saw my share of the type of tornado that you describe. They usually don't damage anything...they're too quick. They're cool though aren't they? I too wished you would've had your camera, although I don't know if you could've gotten a shot before it went back up into the clouds. Am I right?
Wow ! that must be very impressive to sea it in real, it's already on TV. We once had one here in Belgium, just like yours, but it blow a whole farm away !
Michelle, I think it is exactly as you described. Not really there long enough to do any damage, but fascinating to see just the same. I think it was a fluke I got to see it at all, it happened so quickly.
WOW. Glad you're OK. Have a great day and hug the people you love.
Peace!
OMG! I would have been captivated and scared to death at the same time!
I'll have you know I dreamt about tornados last night. Two big fat ones. Seth and I were out on this prairie for some reason and they came after us.
That should teach me not to read your blog right before I go to bed.
=-)
Glad you're safe.
It's okay, Fancy Pants, Big Sister won't let anything getcha!
Yikes, that would scare me to death. Yikes!
I was talking to Bec whe you called to tell her about this tornado!
