Thursday's Thirteen 5/17/07

Thirteen of my Favorite Chick Flicks, in no particular order.

1. While You Were Sleeping: This is about the cutest movie I've ever seen. Sandra Bullock's character, Lucy, all filled with guilt because a family thinks she's their comatose son's fiance is pure entertainment. Lucy all filled with even MORE guilt when she falls in love with their OTHER son, is even better.

2. Hope Floats: Sandra Bullock's character should have never left a town where Harry Connick Jr. lived in the first place. Yeah, the pic on this one is bigger, because I think Harry is muy SEXY!

3. My Big Fat Greek Wedding: Makes me laugh out loud and isn't John Corbett a dream?

4. Steel Magnolias: Tear Jerker. If you need a good cry, rent this one.

5. Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood: Another tear jerker. The scene where Ashley Judd has the kids by herself and one is shitting and one is throwing up is something every mother on the planet can relate to.

6. Sleeping With the Enemy: My favorite scene is where she and Mr. Drama Coach are dancing in the prop room to Sweet Sue. Another favorite scene is where she shoots her abusive husband right after she calls the police to tell them she's shot an intruder. Die, Bastard!

7. Terms of Endearment: The mother of all tear jerkers. The scene I always remember is when Debra Winger's character, who is dying of cancer, tells her surly oldest son that someday he will remember how he treated her and wonder if she knew he loved her. "I know you love me, Tommy." Jeez, I'm choking up right now!

8. How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days: Anything starring Matt Mac is going to hold my attention for a good long time. And their warped and out of tune rendition of "You're so Vain" about made me pee my pants laughing the first time I heard it.

9. When Harry Met Sally: Meg Ryan's impression of an orgasm in the middle of a crowded restaurant has gone down in movie history.

10. You've Got Mail: Tom Hanks is just adorable in this one. He and Meg Ryan have what is known as true movie screen chemistry.

11. Sleepless in Seattle: Again, Tom Hanks. Adorable.

12. Footloose: Don't you just love a movie that makes you want to dance?

13. Pretty Woman: Man finds a prostitute on street, gives her everything she wants, makes her discover everything she could be. Rides up on his white horse and whisks her away at the end. Modern day Cinderella story.

And yes, Mr. Jackson has endured each and every one of these movies with me like a trooper, even though I know he'd rather be watching a shoot-em-up-drive-your-car-into-a-fire-or-off-a-cliff action movie. I love you, Mr. Jackson!

OMG! My Big Fat Greek Wedding is the best! It totally reminds me of my Italian Family. Great list! Thanks for checking out my 13! Happy Thursday.

Great movies!
Tell Mister Jackson it's good for him.

Mz Jackson said...

Yeah, Mister Jackson is spoiled rotten anyway, so he can live with it, hee hee! But then so am I...

Daisy said...

Oh, we have seen all of those movies! My favorite is #3, #9 and #13. Great list.

Dragonheart said...

Those are all great movies. :) Nice list. :)

You asked about Sphynx and people with allergies. Some people with allergies can tolerate Sphynx, some can't. My husband is very, very allergic to other cats, but our Sphynx doesn't bother him at all, even though our cat has rubbed his face all over hubbie's and has slept on his pillow. But it really depends on the individual.

Mz Jackson said...

Thanks, Dragonheart for the info! I love cats, but have always been so allergic, *sniff*

Great list. I'm not much of a movie goer - I need to start renting movies again. I do think it's great that your hubby will go with you to see them, though. Mine absolutely won't!

Oh, yeah, there are some nice movies on this list. and I'm not even into romantic comedies. LOL
When Harry met Sally is a must. And My Big Fat Greek Wedding was pretty entertaining, although I have to say John Corbett looked way better 15 years ago. And Pretty Woman, cheesy as it may be what with all the god-awful clothes and hairdos, is just a classic. Richard Gere has never looked better.

Thanks for stopping by my site. :o)

I love those movies too! My all time two favorite movies that can always put me in a good movie are The money pit, Tom Hanks and Shelly Long, and Micki and Maude, on old Dudley Moore movie.

Seth, have I mentioned you're a complete smart ass? I know I have, surely...
BTW folks, he's my brother so I can talk mean to him all I want...:P ;)
Comedy, if you only watch one of these movies, I would say watch While You Were Sleeping. It's a truly funny comedy.

How nice of you to stop by West of Mars!

I have to confess that I haven't seen probably most of these movies; I'm just not a movie watcher anymore. That might need to change, though.

Happy TT. :)

No Patrick Swayze. Dirty Dancing is the Chickest Flick in the world in my humble opinion =-) In fact hubby and I went to one of the special 20th Anniversary Screen showings last week. I have a great hubby.

Mz Jackson said...

I have a confession, folks. Dirty Dancing is one Chick Flick I cannot get Mr. Jackson to watch!
But Patrick Swayze is a doll, is he not?

TeaMouse said...

Good list, nothing like a chick flick to make an evening. My Dh endures a lot of them too. I got Music and Lyrics for mother's day, I'll have to watch it this weekend.

Do I see a Tom Hanks fan club about to bloom? I love Pretty Woman too x x x

I'll come to movie night at your house anytime, girlfriend.

Thanks for dropping by.

Happy TT!

Thanks to everyone for dropping by! Looks as if I missed a couple:
Dirty Dancing and The Princess Bride.

And yes, Shaz, I would be willing to start a Tom Hanks fan club, right here, right now. I love that guy!

Angelika said...

I wouldn't think of Sleeping With the Enemy as a chick flick. To me, chick flick means sappy romantic comedies, LOL.

FRIGGA said...

Man I have no idea what I was thinking yesterday - I read your list and then DID NOT COMMENT!

So now you get a Happy TT13 AND Happy Friday!

Mz Jackson said...

Oh, it looks like I forgot Beaches, too!
I guess Sleeping With the Enemy could be questionable as a Chick Flick. But by golly, I love that movie!
